2025 Susan Sanford
Memorial STEM Scholarship
All eligible registrants and Division judging committee members of the United States Super STEM Competition may apply for the Susan Sanford Memorial STEM Scholarship. This scholarship will be awarded to a female student majoring in a STEM undergraduate or graduate accredited teacher education program and meeting all scholarship requirements. Educational initiatives with an eye towards encouraging woman in STEM careers have shown "increased enrollment of girls in engineering programs and universities" (Milgram, 2011).
Susan, was a friend and well known teacher for giving an enormous amount of time and energy towards strengthening Technology and Engineering Education in Massachusetts during her career. Most honorably in her last years fighting cancer, Susan continued to advocate for STEM education in k-12 public schools, participated in numerous local and national STEM associations, MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education initiatives and advocated for "STEM Capstone Courses" at the high school level.
Susan's peers in the Technology and Engineering Education field were fully aware of networking with a female teacher at state conferences was a true rarity. Unfazed in a mostly male profession, Susan embraced her opportunities in continuing her journey towards success. In her hallmark year, Susan wore her heels high as president of the Technology Education Association of Massachusetts.
